Hello David. Thanks for your questions. There is a ramp down to the museum which in in the basement. There are no steps and there is easy access inside the Museum all on one level. There is no cafe on site but there is a small convenience store at the end of the road which sells rolls and sandwiches to take out. Coronation Park is nearby for a picnic. There is a disabled toilet near the Museum. The Museum is at Essex Police Headquarters in Sandford Road, off Springfield Road. The turning into Sandford Road is at the crossroads next to Chelmsford prison. Turn left along Victoria Road (past Riverside Ice and Leisure) over the river and turn left at traffic lights in Springfield Road. We are less than 1 mile/5 minutes drive/10 minutes walk away from the Premier Inn and local taxi services will know where to take you. I hope that helps you to plan your visit. The museum is open to the public every Saturday and Wednesdays during the school holidays, from 10am to 4pm. If you need to telephone, please call 01245 457150.
