Safety nowadays is a relative question. Sometimes one is just in the wrong place at the wrong time. But, with that said, I felt completely safe the day I was there on a late Friday morning. The people I met were friendly. One even saw me taking photos with a good quality camera, and he related to me where there was a large eagle statue. I never found the eagle statue, but I found other interesting things. I am 73 years old, in relatively good health, and I carry no weapons, such as mace, a gun, or a knife. Yet, I felt perfectly safe in Clinton Square and the surrounding city blocks. Just as a "heads up," I always watch people's eyes and hands if they are anywhere near me, where I would have cause for concern. The eyes and hands are "tells" that something is not quite right. As I wandered around downtown Syracuse in the middle of the day that Friday, I saw no one that I would have reasonable concern to be worried about while they were near me. The people I met were friendly, and I saw no one that day that seemed to be a threat of any kind. Is it safe? I would say yes, it's safe.
