Dutch authorities are desperately investigating a major art heist of a millenia-old golden helmet from an ancient civilization in current-day Romania.

The Drents Museum in Assen, Netherlands, was the target of a heist where thieves used explosives to breach the museum's entrance in the early hours of the day. According to CBS News, the suspects detonated explosives around 3:45 AM to blow open the museum's reinforced door,

“Several archaeological masterpieces were stolen from the building; the golden helmet of Cotofenesti and three bracelets,” police said. The helmet was on loan from the National History Museum of Romania in Bucharest and dates back to around 450 BC, according to a news release from the museum.

Thieves used explosives to steal four priceless Dacian artifacts, including Romania’s 2,500-year-old gold Helmet of Cotofenesti, from the Drents Museum in the Netherlands, causing significant damage during the early-morning heist.
