Connor McDavid’s contract situation looms large over the Edmonton Oilers with the star forward and team captain entering his final season under contract.

Mitch Moroz is a better style comparable for Clattenburg. Both men earned strong reputations as checking forwards, and both scored well enough in their final junior seasons to receive NHL contracts from the Oilers. Moroz had an exceptional junior career with the Edmonton Oil Kings, including 35 goals in his final season in the WHL.

The question with the Edmonton Oilers and Connor McDavid is not if he will re-sign, but for how much. McDavid has just one year remaining on his current $12.5 million contract, and he could, theoretically, hit the open market next summer and listen to the entire league beg for his services.
