Mr. Cathcart was known for playing the characters Professor Oak and Meowth in the long-running franchise. He also made appearances in other popular animated series such as “Yu-Gi-Oh!” and “One Piece.”

James Carter Cathcart, who provided the voice for characters in both Pokemon and Sonic, has died at the age of 71 after a lengthy battle with throat cancer.

He did voice work for numerous other cartoon shows as well, including “Yu-Gi-Oh!,” “One Piece,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” and “Sonic X.”
