Employing one in every 10 people on Earth, tourism is among the world’s most significant economic industries. In fact, for some countries, tourism amounts to more than 20 percent of the GDP, according to the World Tourism Organization (WTO).

The United Nation’s specialized agency for tourism emphasizes the crucial role tourism can play in fostering peace and understanding between nations and cultures.

Abhishek Chowdhury, secretary, Travel Operators Welfare Association urged the various agencies working in the tourism sector to come under one umbrella to enhance the flow of international and domestic tourists.

“Ours is the most human sector. Every journey leads to a connection. Tourism brings the world together and closer. Tourism builds trust and respect.” An estimated 285 million tourists travelled internationally in the beginning of 2024, according to UN Tourism figures.
