An 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Russia. A tsunami advisory was issued for the coast of California and a warning for the entire state of Hawaii and parts of Alaska.

Japan’s meteorological agency said on Wednesday that a powerful earthquake hit near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula and issued a tsunami advisory for Japan.

It issued an advisory for a tsunami of up to 1 meter (yard) along the Pacific coast of Japan.
