Highly infectious H5N1 virus, also known as the bird flu virus has tightened its grip on the United States. For the first time, Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), has been detected in a commercial poultry flock in Georgia.

Bird flu has been detected in a Georgia commercial poultry flock for the first time since a countrywide outbreak in 2022.

Georgia officials announced Wednesday that a second commercial poultry flock in the state had been found with a case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).
