Palestinians are returning to areas ruined by 15 months of war after Israel and Hamas resolved a dispute over hostages that threatened to derail the ceasefire.

Israel is letting thousands of Palestinians return to northern Gaza for the first time since the early weeks of the war with Hamas​, as a fragile ceasefire endures​.

More than 375,000 Palestinians have crossed into northern Gaza since Israel allowed their return on Monday morning, the United Nations said Tuesday. That represents over a third of the million people who fled the north in the war’s first weeks.
