EXCLUSIVE: Goonies never say die, and neither does the dream of a sequel, as momentum seems to be gaining on the long-rumored project, with Old Henry‘s Potsy Ponciroli coming aboard to pen the script for Warner Bros.

Old Henry director Potsy Ponciroli, 43, will write the script for the new Goonies sequel for the Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, Deadline reports. The sequel does not have a director yet, and the plot is still unknown to the public.

Almost 40 years after the original was released in June 1985, Warner Bros. has hired Potsy Ponciroli to write the script for a sequel to The Goonies, with Steven Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Holly Bario producing for Amblin Entertainment,
