Airbnb is opening the doors to Rome's historic Colosseum for up to 16 guests for an unforgettable experience as part of their new Icons category.

In anticipation of Ridley Scott's long-awaited sequel to 'Gladiator,' Airbnb is hosting a limited experience where guests become "warriors" and train in the "art of gladiator combat," PEOPLE can exclusively announce.

Built nearly 2,000 years ago, the Colosseum is one of the most iconic ancient structures still standing in Rome. But visiting it today, you can only begin to imagine what it would have been like to attend a gladiator fight during the days of the Roman Empire.

For the first time in nearly 2,000 years, the Colosseum returns to its original purpose as a venue for performances.

Airbnb says it will offer a free gladiator experience to anyone interested in following the footsteps of Russell Crowe and his ancient models from the bowels of the Colosseum up onto the killing floor of Rome's great arena.
