Christmas lights are starting to be switched on across the South West over the coming days and weeks as the build up to the festive period begins. The biggest display will take place in Plymouth on Thursday, with the City Centre lights due to be switched on at 18:30 GMT.

Almost immediately after the Boston Common tree lighting, the city will light up the Commonwealth Avenue Mall and Charlesgate Park on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 8:15 p.m. The lights will extend to Kenmore Square this year for the first time ever, the Boston Parks & Recreation Department says.
