South Texas is staring down its strongest blast of winter so far this season, with a powerful cold front set to sweep across the region late Saturday into early Sunday—bringing storms, pockets of heavy rain, and temperatures cold enough to flirt with freezing early next week.
A line of thunderstorms blasted through North Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas early Monday morning, as an estimated 73 million people began to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Texas dodges hurricane season for first time in years
HOUSTON - Hurricane season has officially ended and Texas dodged tropical trouble for the first time in three years. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30 each year. Texas did not see a landfalling tropical depression, tropical storm or hurricane this year. It’s the first time that has happened since 2022.
Storm conditions are expected to continue in Texas, which has already had impressive rainfall this week. A flash flood watch is in effect for 12 million people in parts of north-central Texas, including Dallas and stretching all the way to the Mexican border at Del Rio. It is expected to remain in effect through Friday morning.
Some suburban Houston residents are dealing with cleanup following at least two tornadoes as heavy rain falls around the South and snow in parts of the Midwest.
The front will likely move into the San Antonio metro area by midnight, bringing a chance of storms and a sharp drop in temperatures.
