The Italian government has met to discuss the case of an Italian national arrested in Venezuela two months ago and held without formal charges.

Italy has protested Venezuela's lack of information over the arrest of Italian NGO worker Alberto Trentini in Caracas. Despite being detained for over two months, no charges have been filed. Tensions rise as Italy criticizes Venezuela's political climate and previously managed to secure a journalist's release from Iran.

Venezuela's Foreign Ministry Tuesday instructed The Netherlands, France, and Italy to cut down their diplomatic missions in Caracas to three members each following what the Bolivarian regime described as “meddling in internal affairs.

Venezuela said Tuesday it had cut to three the number of accredited diplomats allowed at the French, Italian and Dutch embassies, citing their governments' "hostile" response to the inauguration of President Nicolas Maduro for a third term.
