Reds manager Terry Francona said Nick Martinez, who was set to start Friday, would be the No. 3 pitcher in Cincinnati's initial rotation to begin the regular season.

The Reds announced that Hunter Greene will be their Opening Day starter later this month. The Reds play the Giants on March 27 at 4:10 p.m. ET at Great American Ballpark. It's no surprise that Greene is starting the season for Cincinnati.

Manager Bob Melvin said things are “up in the air” when asked if the Giants are leaning towards having two left-handers in their bullpen. Melvin added that having two lefties in the ‘pen is “ideal,” especially if one can throw multiple innings. Melvin joked earlier this spring that his main criteria when looking at the different lefties is “outs.”

The Reds are back in action on Friday, hosting the San Francisco Giants in a spring training matchup at Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear, Arizona. Nick Martinez will take the mound for Cincinnati. Martinez has yet to allow a run in four innings of work this spring.

The San Francisco Giants signed starting pitcher Justin Verlander to a one-year deal in the offseason. This was one of several moves that the Giants made this offseason, including signing shortstop Willy Adames to a long-term deal.
