French engineer Mekies, previously team principal at Red Bull ’s sister F1 team Racing Bulls, has taken over from Horner and is at the helm this weekend for the Belgian Grand Prix. Mekies previously enjoyed a near-decade stint at Toro Rosso, the old name for Red Bull’s sister team, and also has experience to his name at Ferrari and the FIA.

Christian Horner has reportedly been in contact over a shock return to Formula 1, less than two weeks after his Red Bull departure. Earlier in the month, the F1 world was shaken to its core by the sudden announcement that Horner had been sacked by Red Bull.

Formula One champion Max Verstappen won the Belgian Grand Prix sprint on Saturday in Red Bull's first race under the new leadership of Laurent Mekies following Christian Horner's dismissal.
