A Minnesota state senator will resign from office from her seat after she was found guilty Friday of burglarizing her stepmother's home, her attorney said in a statement.

Sen. Nicole Mitchell, a Woodbury Democrat who was found guilty of first-degree burglary, will resign from the Minnesota Senate, her attorney said.

A Becker County jury recently found Sen. Nicole Mitchell (DFL-Woodbury) guilty of two burglary charges after she broke into the Detroit Lakes home of her stepmother to retrieve some of her late father’s belongings.
