The Potomac River is open again after federal recovery teams concluded their salvage operations following the deadly collision between a commercial airliner and a U.S. Army helicopter on Jan. 29.

An American Airlines plane with 64 people on board collided with an Army helicopter over Washington, D.C., and crashed into the Potomac River.

Crews are expected to remove the cockpit from the American Airlines jet from the Potomac River as they continue recovery efforts from last week's fatal mid-air collision that killed 67 people.

Recovery crews have been hard at work doing rehearsals to prepare for Monday morning, when they will lift the wreckage of the plane out of the Potomac River.

Six days ahead of schedule, officials on Tuesday announced the section of the Potomac River affected by the deadly collision between an American Airlines jet and military helicopter had been fully restored.

In a major update, the US National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration retrieved parts of the wreckage of the Black Hawk helicopter on 7. The helicopter collided with an American Airlines jet on January 30.
