Temperatures have plummeted to minus double digits in some parts of the country, with Brits in five different regions being warned to look out for icy patches on roads and pavements

Brits awoke to icy and freezing cold conditions across the country this morning ahead of an evening where temperatures in Northern areas could reach lows of -20°C. Wednesday evening saw temperatures plummet to lows of -13.

Hundreds of schools across the UK have been forced to close after the country was hit by overnight snow and ice. A number of yellow weather warnings from the Met Office remain in place for large parts of the UK on Wednesday, with the country facing widespread disruption.
