Thousands of veterans, military personnel and their supporters gathered at Canada's National War Memorial in Ottawa to remember those who have fought and died to protect this country and its freedoms.

Canadian veterans, family members, senior politicians and officials will gather in Ottawa on Monday morning to mark Remembrance Day during a year that includes several important anniversaries.

Ceremonies to mark Remembrance Day were held across Quebec on Monday. In Montreal, the Quebec Provincial Command of the Royal Canadian Legion held its annual ceremony at the cenotaph in Place du Canada, with members of the public filing in as of 10:30 a.m. The ceremony began at 11 a.m. with two minutes of silence followed by a 21-gun salute.
