CINCINNATI — Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin spoke with the media ahead of training camp this week and stated his desire for Shemar Stewart to get in the fold as quickly as possible.
With camp set to open July 23, the clock is ticking. Teammates, coaches, and fans are watching closely to see if Stewart will show up or stay away. And while Hendrickson’s contract situation still lingers, it’s Stewart’s absence and the questions around his deal that now loom over the Bengals’ next chapter.
One comment in particular from Bengals’ director of player personnel Duke Tobin elicited a response from Stewart’s agent, Zac Hiller. Tobin questioned the advice the 23-year-old Stewart is getting from his agents. “Shemar is just listening to the advice he’s paying for (agents),” Tobin said Monday. “I don’t understand the advice.”
Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Shemar Stewart did not report to training camp on Saturday with the rest of the team's rookies. The Texas A&M product remains the only first-round selection who has not agreed to a rookie deal.
Adam Schefter breaks down Trey Hendrickson's absence from Bengals training camp, citing a contract dispute over guaranteed money requiring a compromise.
