By comparison, current industry leader Waymo operates 1,500 driverless taxis — including about 100 in Austin — in partnership with Uber.

The partnership will combine Uber's ride-sharing platform with Lucid's new electric SUV, the Gravity, and Nuro's autonomous driving technology. It'll be launching first in an unnamed "major US city," but is expected to roll out globally to more than 20,000 Lucid vehicles over the next six years.

Uber announced a partnership to deploy 20,00 or more robotaxis in a deal with Nuro and Lucid on Thursday. The companies are working together to equip Lucid electric vehicles with Nuro's autonomy driver system.
