The family of a man shot and killed by Fall River police on Tuesday morning decried the police response that led to his death and called for the department to provide a more detailed account of what led up to officers shooting at the man.

Police responded around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday to a report that a man was threatening to harm himself at his home on Langley Street, law enforcement officials said.

River firefighters arrived at the scene Sunday to find some of the trapped residents screaming for help out of the windows.

River will hire up to 20 more firefighters and offer more overtime to increase the number of crew members working each shift following this week's deadly fire at an assisted living facility.

Nine people died Sunday night after an assisted living facility caught fire in Fall River, Massachusetts, officials said, with elderly people begging for help from first responders as smoke poured out of the building.
