The Teamsters union said it has picket lines up at Republic Services locations in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Seattle. Other strikes against Republic, a national waste management firm, have begun in Georgia and Illinois.

A trash collectors strike is disrupting service in 14 cities and towns across Massachusetts. More than 400 workers from Republic Services walked off the job early Tuesday morning. The union, Teamsters Local 25, is demanding better pay and benefits.

Republic Services said it was using "employees from Massachusetts and other states" to provide service in Greater Boston.

Negotiations between Republic and Teamsters Local 25 union have stalled over wages, benefits, working conditions, and paid time off, according the union.

Several Massachusetts communities impacted by the Republic Services sanitation strike​ wrote to the company urging a quick resolution.

The waste management company contracted to provide trash collection services in several Massachusetts cities and towns is accusing striking local union workers of resorting to outright violence as
