May 1, 2023 · Marlow’s main outdoor space is a spread of lawn beside the river, clustered with mature trees. Higginson Park is awarded a Green Flag every year, and even though you’ll enter from Marlow’s High Street the park is bordered to the west by nothing but open countryside.

Today, Higginson Park offers a harmonious blend of natural beauty, recreational facilities, and historic charm. Enjoy the gardens: Wander through sweeping lawns, admire formal flowerbeds, explore a delightful maze, be inspired by the statue of Sir Steve Redgrave, Marlow’s legendary five-time Olympic gold medalist, and relax under majestic trees.

The park is bordered by the Thames so it is a bit wet at present as the river has slightly broken its banks. There is a good children's playarea, plenty of places for dogs to run, a cafe and opportunities to feed the ducks and swans. Also the place to capture the perfect Marlow view of church, river and bridge.

Formerly a garden dating back to 1758, Higginson Park, a Green Flag park, has been a public park since 1926 with large expanses of lawn, formal flowerbeds, fine trees and a maze. Higginson Park has indoor and outdoor catering, and public toilets.

Our Marlow circular walk route will cover around 6.3 miles (10.1 kilometers). It will take us through the town, along the river, and into woodland areas with archaeological sites. It’s flat in terms of topography, so we look forward to an easy ramble.

Higginson Park is the main park in the centre of Marlow just near the bridge. The park has a large children\’s playground, a great cafe, public toilets and a skate park which is open all year. There are many trees and large expanses of lawn with formal flowerbeds and a brick in grass maze, created by Adrian Fisher to mark the Millennium.

Temple Lock is about 1½ miles from Higginson Park, at the river end of the High St. This circular route is about 3 miles in total. This is a level walk (incline on the bridge beyond Temple Lock). The surface can be muddy in places after rain.
