Born at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, Goldsmith is the eldest child of Lady Annabel Goldsmith and financier Sir James Goldsmith (1933–1997). Her mother, from an aristocratic Anglo−Irish family, is the daughter of the 8th Marquess of Londonderry.

The Goldschmidt family is a family of German Jewish descent, originally from Frankfurt am Main, known for their success in banking and finance. With origins tracing back to the 15th century, most members were forced to leave Frankfurt after the 1614 Fettmilch uprising, and did not return until the 18th century. [1]

She was born into a very wealthy family. In her childhood, she was a very good horse rider, and while she was still in her teenage, she had already become an accomplished equestrian. Goldsmith got enrolled in the University of Bristol for her graduation in 1993.
