Indeed, even for this battle-hardened town that’s been through it before — once in 2004 and once in 2021 — the utter destruction was the worst yet. Rodney Vance lives on steep hill in Cruso, and while rain came down in torrents, he was high enough up to escape flooding. “Water was coming down from everywhere. The river was up in the road. You couldn’t go nowhere,” Vance said.
