This is a Multiflora sucker on a rose. Multiflora is the rootstock. We grafted this rose many years ago, but only planted it a few months ago. As you can see, the sucker has grown faster than the rose. We want to remove it, not only because it’s unsightly, but also because it’s taking nutrients and water that the intended rose should be getting.
